Philosophy

Hi, I’m Ching Chen.

I’m a licensed osteopathic medical doctor—a doctor trained in the “whole person” approach to medicine instead of just treating specific symptoms or illnesses. I specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, but my practice includes people from all walks of life: new moms, athletes, older folks and others who want to learn how to take care of their bodies so they can heal themselves and really come alive again.

I was drawn to this type of medicine for a lot of reasons, but probably the most important (though a little embarrassing to admit!) is that I am very accident prone. Over the years, I’ve had to overcome lots of physical challenges due to injuries, and I couldn’t bear the thought of losing the freedom to live my life how I wanted to. I wasn’t ready to give up walking wherever I liked. I wasn’t ready to stop dancing with my friends. I wasn’t ready to give up having fun!

I knew osteopathic training would give me the chance to help myself and others get our lives back by encouraging our bodies’ natural tendency toward good health.

How we’ll work together

I love keeping an open mind (and heart) when developing the very best individual treatment plans for my patients. So over the years, I’ve added other modalities to my New York City practice—acupuncture, yoga, nutrition analysis—that beautifully complement osteopathic medicine’s holistic approach to wellness.

I am continually amazed and inspired by the triumphs I witness in my patients. I’ve seen how the right treatment combined with an indomitable spirit and sheer will can help them achieve seemingly impossible goals: Marathons at 80. Losing 100 pounds. Or even just getting back on the tennis court when others told them they’d never play again.

The promise I make to you is this: I’m not going to be the one to tell you that you can’t do something you set your mind to.

I’m going to be the one to encourage you and tell you to reach for the stars (while, of course, creating a treatment plan for you that supports that!).

That’s because when you work with me, I’m not just your physician. I’m your educator. I’m your coach. I’m your biggest champion.

And I’m going to teach you how to create good health that feels good now—and sustains you for a lifetime.

I am passionate about reaching as many people as I can and helping them find natural and simple solutions that will bring back their vibrancy, energy and optimism.

I’m so honored that I get to do this amazing work with so many wonderful people. And I look forward to getting to work with you.
