Looking for a fast way to pump up your antioxidants and increase your nutrients? Try increasing your intake of what are being called “superfruits.“ This is a non-clinical name for a category of fruits (mainly berries) that are more densely packed with nutrients and other compounds that help fight disease.
Acai, noni, goji berry (or wolfberry), pomegranates and mangosteen are fruits that claim to have health benefits. Acai is known as the “beauty berry” because it’s believed to be good for your skin, hair and nails. Noni is supposed to support a good digestive system; mangosteen is purported to combat fatigue and help fight infection. The goji berry is known as the “happy berry” and is said to support a healthy libido and an elevated mood.
While a healthy diet should include fruits of all kinds, there is some preliminary evidence that these “superfruits” do have healing properties not found in the fruits you typically find in your produce department.
At the very least, they’re high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are the molecules that help us fight free radicals, the cell-damaging chemicals we’re exposed to every day.
I would love to hear your experiences with superfruits. Let me know what you’ve tried and what you think in the comments.
